MIDLAND CONTRACTOR SCOOPS TOP NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXTRA-CARE VILLAGE

One of the UK’s largest plastering and drylining contractors has walked off with a top national award for its work on a £25 million Extra Care Village contract in Birmingham.

Stafford-based TC Interiors Ltd received the top award at the prestigious Federation of Plastering and Drywall Contractors’ (FPDC) annual awards ceremony in London. The award was in the Dry-lining Contracts Over £1 Million category.

The award was for TC Interiors’ work on the recently completed Pannel Croft Extra Care Village in Newtown, Birmingham. The development provides 180 one and two-bedroom apartments for over-55s requiring care. The project, by the Extra Care Charitable Trust, is the second of five planned for Birmingham in partnership with the City Council.

As well as affordable homes for rent, sale or shared ownership, the village has communal facilities including a café bar, a gym, a greenhouse, an indoor bowling green and enclosed winter garden, hairdressing and beauty salons, a library, a worship room, a restaurant, a village hall and a shop.

TC Interiors’ £1.1 million 12-month contract included plastering, suspended ceilings and rendering throughout the homes and facilities.

TC Interiors joint managing director Chris Leonard said he was thrilled to receive the award which recognised the complexity of the project, high standards of workmanship and the fact that the work was delivered within budget and on time.

“There were many challenges to this contract and our labour force had to work with complex designs. However, they met the challenges and produced work of the highest standard. The contract was delivered in a tight timescale and has won praise from our Client, Keepmoat, and also Extra Care, the end user,” he said.

TC Interiors was established in 2000 and is based on Staffordshire Technology Park.

The company is recognised as one of the largest and fastest growing companies in the market, operating in the commercial, public and residential sectors of the construction industry.

The company has recently completed the contract to finish the interior of the iconic new Air Traffic Control Tower at Birmingham Airport, and also the airport’s 200 room Travelodge Hotel.

Other major projects include a 219 room Travelodge in Cambridge, a 110 bed student accommodation block at Birmingham University, a 109 room Hilton Hotel in Birmingham and an 88 bedroom care home in Oswestry, as well as work on numerous major housing projects in Coventry, Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham, Towcester, Evesham and Kidderminster.
